Fire burns near Police Academy in Elysian Park *

* Update: The fire was extinguished in 42 minutes, said the LAFD.

A small brush fire has burned between 3 to 5 acres just east of the Los Angeles Police Academy, reports the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire, which is not threatening any buildings, started at about noon near Academy Road. Traffic on Academy Road was being blocked at Stadium Way, said one resident who was driving through Elysian Park after 12 pm.

This is perhaps the sixth small fire to strike in or near the park since the end of April. At least one of the fires is believed to have been set intentionally.
